EA unhappy with Mass Effect appearance in Donald Trump advert

United States presidential candidate Donald Trump’s latest campaign ad includes “unauthorized use” of the Mass Effect IP, according to publisher EA.

The advert in question, aptly titled the Trump Effect, was retweeted by Trump earlier today, shortly before it was pulled from YouTube due to a copyright claim by EA. The two-and-a-half-minute fan-made video features Mass Effect music and Mass Effect 2 voice work by Martin Sheen. At the time of writing, it is still viewable via the candidate’s Twitter.

Suffice it to say, EA was not pleased with the parody ad. “We do not support our assets being used in political campaigns,” the publisher told GameInformer.

Some Mass Effect creators are none too pleased, either. Bioware game designer Manveer Heir tweeted some thoughts of his own:

See 6 EA franchises reimagined as cakes

Fandom comes in many forms, some more delicious than others. Cosplay and fan art is all well and good, but what about more practical passion projects like, to pick a random example, cakes? Well, some EA fans thought of that and baked eight tantalizing cakes done up in Plants vs. Zombies, Mass Effect, FIFA, Battlefield, Dragon Age: Inquisition and the Sims.

Here are the highlights from EA’s recent Twitter trawl, which you can view in full on the studio’s blog.

Mass Effect themed 4D amusement ride coming this spring

The Mass Effect franchise keeps on getting bigger and a ride at California's Great America is the next step in expanding the franchise. It will let visitors explore the Mass Effect universe like never before.

The Mass Effect themed ride will be a 4D holographic experience and will be called "Mass Effect: New Earth". This attraction will have the world's largest LED screen and will let visitors get seated in a "motion-based seating" while wearing 3D glasses "live performers will curate the journey and interact seamlessly with the next generation 3D visuals". Additionally, the ride will also have "high-tech" sounds and other various 4D effects.

Mass Effect: New Earth was first announced back in October and will now be open for the public this Spring. The attraction has been developed in partnership with EA and BioWare to create as authentic of a Mass Effect Experience as possible.

This isn't the first video game to get a theme park ride, in 2015 Nintendo got their own rides at Universal Studios, and it seems to be a trend to get a theme park ride to further expand an already loved franchise.

No exact date for when Mass Effect: New Earth will open for the public has been announced, just that it will open sometime during the spring of 2016.

Leaked Mass Effect: Andromeda footage shows jetpack gameplay

A personal jetpack is the star of a brief section of Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay footage recently unearthed by an inquisitive NeoGAF user.

The footage is said to be from 2014, meaning the features and content depicted have likely been changed or removed. The majority of the 50-odd seconds of footage (available via a link in this NeoGAF thread) is focused on environmental details, including rain, fog and other weather and particle effects, such as the tear gas-like grenade wielded by a Krogan.

The high point of the clip begins around 32 seconds in with a quick look at jetpack-aided exploration. The clip is short and dated, but also firm evidence of Andromeda’s world including freeform, vertical exploration.

Earlier this week, NeoGAF users turned up a survey allegedly revealing much of Andromeda’s story. The gist of the plot is said to be humans searching for a new home planet in a hostile galaxy, and butting heads with indigenous races in the process. The synopsis overlaps considerably with a survey leaked in April 2015, which lends credence to the rumor.

Mass Effect themed amusement ride coming in May

Last year a Mass Effect themed ride was announced to be coming to California's Great America amusement park, and now the opening date for the ride has been revealed.

California's Great America announced on their Twitter that the new ride called Mass Effect: New Earth will be rideable on May 18! That means that visitors can travel amongst the stars at California's Great America in less than a month away from now.

Mass Effect: New Earth will be a 4D holographic journey created in partnership with EA and Bioware to make the most authentic Mass Effect theme ride ever. It will also feature the world's largest LED screen for visitors to enjoy the ride on.

The ride will from the sound of it be pretty cool. Visitors will be in a "motion-based seating while wearing 3D glasses [and] live performers will curate the journey and interact seamlessly with the next generation 3D visuals".

If California's Great America manages to pull this off then they may very well have the worlds coolest theme park ride.
