When it comes to pre-ordering games or outright buying them, Amazon has become one of the easiest methods of getting your hands on a product. Unfortunately for gamers, it appears as though Amazon is locking video games behind the Amazon Prime paywall.
According to VideoGamer, the $99 a year paywall has apparently made the PS4 versions of GTA 5, Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin's Creed Syndicate, along with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 16, Far Cry Primal, Battlefield Hardline exclusive to Prime members.
"One of the many benefits of Amazon Prime is access to exclusive selection on a number of great products," said an Amazon representative in a statement to VideoGamer. "Customers who are not Prime members can sign-up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, or they can purchase those items from a Marketplace seller."
Whether Amazon will continue to spread its reach to make other games exclusive has not yet been revealed.
Note: This only effects the games sold by Amazon – not third-party sellers.
According to some recent player data via EA's official multiplayer servers, Battlefield 4 holds 50% more concurrent players over a 24 hour period than Star Wars: Battlefront. Battlefield 4 averages 125,000 players versus Star Wars: Battlefront hosting 80,000.
Battlefield Hardline is even further behind with only 25,000 active users, 400% less than Battlefield 4.
This isn't terribly surprising considering that Star Wars: Battlefront was perceived to lack long lasting content at launch (check out our Review). Although EA has continued to support the came through content updates (albeit behind a Season Pass for the most part), many players tend to stick only to Blast, Supremacy and Walker Assault modes. That's only three out of a total of ten modes, which isn't a recipe for long-term success.
The Outer Rim DLC was the first of four planned expansion packs that will release every so often until 2017, so the good news is that EA is planning to support the game over the long haul. Here's hoping some of those numbers begin to balance out.
Back in 2002 the Swedish developer DICE shocked the world with Battlefield 1942, now it looks like it's time again to revisit World War II in Battlefield 1944.
Rumor has it that DICE is working on the next Battlefield game and apparently it will be set in WWII once again. This isn't the first time that a rumor about the next Battlefield game either being set in or including World War gameplay has gotten out. In March the supposed DLC plans for Battlefield 5 came out showing that the game would include such settings. And a Swiss retailer has listed Battlefield 5 as a WWI shooter.
This time the rumor has it that a full new Battlefield game will take place in WWII, Battlefield 1944. A leaked picture online shows the release window, what maps will be in it, and when the beta starts. The game itself is scheduled for release in March 2017, less than a year away from now. Those who pre-order will get the "Nostalgia Map-Pack" which will include Back To El Alamein and more fan favorites, and a special skin for the M1 Carbine.
The early beta of Battlefield 1944 is set to begin as soon as this November.
But remember, this is still just a rumor. DICE has not said anything about this and they will have an official announcement on May 6 about Battlefield 5. This remains a rumor until DICE has officially announced a new WWII Battlefield.
