In an oddly noiseless move, Nintendo released a surprise YouTube video today announcing that their line of Splatoon amiibo figures will be growing this summer, with the performing Squid Sisters as the focal point.
On July 8, Callie and Marie will be offered in an amiibo 2-pack priced at $24.99. But don't get your hopes up about new content. These figures won't render the Squid Sisters as playable characters for the single-player campaign, nor will it open up new challenges. Loading them into the game only opens a menu of new music for their performances, so it's more for novelty.
Also launching the same day are recolors of the Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl, and Inkling Squid figures, which will be available in single unit (for the first two) and 3-pack form. Their original counterparts came out almost a year ago in May 2015.
The allure of the amiibo hunt has since faded, but these new additions — along with the Kirby line launching in June — will keep persistent collectors happy.
Rumors around Nintendo's upcoming NX console have grown thicker in the last few weeks, whether it's regarding the consoles hardware and components or the games that will be featured on the console at launch.
Latest rumors, supplied by Emily Rogers (via NeoGaf), are suggesting that a couple Wii U games are in development for the NX. These games are as follows: Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros. and the upcoming Legend of Zelda.
A couple of these games have been rumored to be NX ports previously. Zelda was rumored to be in development for the NX in February and Super Smash Bros. was rumored to be an NX launch title in January, along with a number of Bandai Namco titles.
Rogers is the individual that previously released a rumor saying that Zelda had been 'confirmed' for both Wii U and NX and that the game could potentially feature a silent protagonist, as well as a choice between a female or male protagonist.
Whether these rumors lend themselves to any truths is unconfirmed by Nintendo. Until then recognize that any (or all) of the rumored NX games could never release for the console and forever remain Wii U titles.
The folks over at Humble have brought a Nintendo Bundle that brings together a number of Nintendo's third-party publishers together and makes their games available at a discount. The 'Friends of Nintendo' bundle is worth $179, but thanks to Humble we can get all of the games, as well as unannounced titles for $13.
As per usual, the bundle supports two different charities. This time, a portion of the proceeds wil go towards SOS Children's Villages and Code.org. Of course, you choose where the proceeds go – how much goes to the developers and how much goes to the charities.
Here are the games included:
The $1 category
- Retro City Rampage: DX (Wii U)
- Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U)
- Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (Wii U/3DS)
The above average category (currently $9.57)
- Freedom Planet (Wii U)
- Rhythm Thief & the Emporer's Treasure (3DS)
- Citizens of Earth (Wii U or 3DS)
- Retro City Rampage: DX 3DS Home Menu Theme
- More games coming soon!
The $13 category
- Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edotopm (3DS)
- Darksiders 2 (Wii U)
Star Fox fans have been waiting with bated breathe for Nintendo and Platinum Games' latest installment to the beloved series, Star Fox Zero, now releasing in less than two weeks.
Hopes have been high ever since the E3 announcement of the Wii U game last year, despite the release date having already been pushed back from the 2015 holiday season to late April this year. SFZ boasts new maps and stages, as well as masterful renderings of the old favorites, and an optimistic 60 frames per second frame rate. Unfortunately, after a recent stress test, its possible that figure may not be as consistent as promised.
While most of the game is capable of maintaining 60FPS, it was discovered that certain maps (namely Corneria and Sector Alpha) and many of the explosion effects can cause the game to drop anywhere from 10-20FPS below the desired threshold. Its likely the erratic frame rate is due to the game rendering out on two different screens, both the television, depending on the pixel rate, and the GamePad. While it may be too soon to the game's launch to repair these issues, the 60FPS rate seems to be reletively consistent throughout and doesn't appear to present much of a detriment to the gameplay as a whole.
Star Fox: Zero releases April 22 on Wii U!
Competing over food preferences is one thing, but getting to represent an existing fandom in Splatoon is pretty sweet. After seeing the success that came with their Hasbro partnership, Nintendo is again using Splatfest as a venue to debate matters of pop culture — this time with the help of Nickelodeon and one of their biggest properties, SpongeBob SquarePants.
Your choices for next weekend ask you to choose between the lesser of two daft undersea creatures: on one side, a bubble-blowing, overworked chef; on the other, a lethargic barnacle head. It's like The Fry Cook Games all over again.
If the foodies act on principle, then the pineapple resident will likely win the Popularity vote. But maybe Patrick supporters have a secret stash of Brain Coral to ensure Star steals the Victory category.
Chances are, Mahi-Mahi Resort will be included in the trio of Splatfest locations, but be sure to fill your helmet with water before coming to the surface. Cast your votes this week in preparation for April 23, when players in North America and Europe will be joined together for the first time.
Let's hope this partnership with Nickelodeon paves the way for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to infiltrate Splatoon. Anyone for a Leonardo vs. Karai battle?
Batman fans rejoice! A leaked photo of an HD collection of the first two Arkham games, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Batman Arkham City have been leaked by a GameStop employee.
The photo that you can see above shows off that that the official announcement via pre-order bonuses was coming tomorrow, April 19. The HD pack will come with the two Rocksteady developed games, upgraded visuals for the PS4 & Xbox One and all of the previously released DLC.
However, the HD collection won't be including Arkham Origins as it was developed by WB Montreal instead of Rocksteady. We also get to see that the game will be released on June 10.
Are you excited for a Batman Arkham HD collection? Let us know in the comments below!
No, Goku isn't in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U like he ought to be, but that doesn't mean that the community won't make that happen. With the combined effort of multiple modders, Goku has joined the Smash Bros. roster.
Of course, it's not really Goku. It's a Ryu skin (doesn't make it any less awesome).
Super Mega Buster, with the help of KTH, ShadowLuigi, and Nanobuds helped make the mod possible, now all we need is for Nintendo to recognize the glory that is Goku and make him available on the NX port of Smash Bros..
It appears as though the German PlayStation Network has jumped the gun on the revealed for May's PlayStation Plus titles. A Redditor has reportedly come across Watch Dogs and Tetris as May's bonus PS Plus games.
The image, as seen above, is pretty bad and could easily be a fake – however – it would be nice to see a AAA title included in the PS Plus lineup. Recently, PlayStation has brought the Ps Plus focus to indie games, neglecting to include many blockbuster titles in the program.
Last month, PlayStation Plus members saw Zombi and Dead Star as their free games, both titles had been hinted at by numerous reports prior to their release. Dead Star was even confirmed by PlayStation prior to its release.
After a ton of delays and setbacks, Mighty No. 9 has finally received its official release date. The highly anticipated title will release on June 21 for North America & Asia and on June 24 World Wide.
The game has been delayed more times than you can think which has upset fans and backers of the game. However, Inafune took to the blog post to sincerely apologize to his fans for all the delays the game has been faced with, here's what he had to say:
Firstly, I would like to say again how sincerely sorry we are for how long we have kept all of our fans waiting. We are finally able to deliver some long-awaited news regarding Mighty No. 9.
We understand that as a result of the various delays we have disappointed and let down our fans, but we are happy to finally be able to deliver the game to everyone who brought us this far.
Inafune also states that this is the final release date, it has been written in stone and there will be NO more delays. He also mentions that the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS versions are still on their way, this release date is just for the home consoles.
Might No. 9 finally releases on June 21 for US and Asia & on June 24 worldwide.
